Sound Installation | Reggiane, Reggio Emilia

Square is an interactive sound walk created by Lorenzo Bianchi Hoesch, presented over the past ten years in many cities. This version was conceived for Festival Aperto 2026 in Reggio Emilia, in the spaces of the former Reggiane factories, and will remain on site as a permanent installation.
Wearing headphones, visitors walk through the Reggiane following a voice that guides them across the place, in a succession of sound scenes associated with particular spots of the environment. Square’s augmented soundscapes change the way we perceive reality, blending fiction and the real space into a kind of cinematographic experience. The Reggio Emilia version is the longest ever made, lasting over an hour.
The installation is accompanied by Podcast per camminare, a series of interviews recorded while walking through the Reggiane, to be listened to on headphones while exploring the site.
